Jazz At Lincoln Center Spring Gala

On Monday, May 9, 2016, nearly 800 guests attended Jazz at Lincoln Center's festive annual gala. Titled “Jazz and Broadway,” this year’s fundraiser, comprising a dinner and benefit performance by the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis and a star-studded roster of special guests—was hosted by Vanessa Williams in Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Rose Theater. I had a blast and got to sing "I'm Simply Full of Jazz" from Shuffle Along. Pics below!

Emery Battis Award for Acting Excellence

I still don't have the words to express my gratitude. After 3 months in DC, playing Aldonza in "Man of La Mancha" at the Shakespeare Theatre Company, I was awarded the Emery Battis Award for Acting Excellence. Along with the gorgeous crystal sculpture, they threw in a cool $5,000, the generosity of an anonymous donor. I am so grateful, overwhelmed with gratitude for the love and encouragement from everyone at STC. I have to thank Michael Kahn and Alan Paul, especially, for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to tell such a beautiful story. Hard work pays off. Keep pressing!!!!

Loving V. Virginia

I got to spend two beautiful weeks in Poughkeepsie at the NY Stage and Film Festival at Vassar, working on what might be the most beautiful piece I've ever done. I'm slightly obsessed with "Loving V. Virginia" - book and lyrics by my new friend, the critically acclaimed Marcus Gardley, composed by my ATL brother and Grammy award winner Justin Ellington, and directed by the wonderful Patricia McGregor. Playing Mildred Loving for 4 performances was such a gift. This show could change the world......I'm ready!!!
